There had been reports (and some photos) of two pintail ducks at Mud Lake over the past few weeks. They were never in sight when I was there of course. I did get a nice photo of a pintail pair a few years ago, but I wanted to see what I could get this year.
We dropped by Mud Lake on our way home mid-day and headed down to the Ottawa River where they had been seen. Nope! But then someone mentioned one was up the entrance to the main trail. There is a small area that is often open water.
Sure enough there it was in with a bunch of mallards. It was like bumping cars someone mentioned. Getting a shot of only the pintail was difficult
I had my long lens, but my shorter, wider angle one might have been better....
But I managed to grab a few photos of it by itself. It has three very long tail feathers, but the group of feathers "at the back end" are beautiful.
Always love it when I can get the "Conductor pose"
