Twenty-one centimetres (eight inches) of snow fell/blew in January 15. Starting in the morning and ending overnight. By early morning on the 16th, the city plows had been out and all the streets were clear, the sidewalks/pathways had been done at least once. The city is very efficient at that.
It was -21°C (-6°F) this morning when I headed out for a neighbourhood stroll.
It was -21°C (-6°F) this morning when I headed out for a neighbourhood stroll.
With the sun just rising the shadows were long
The linear park pathways had been plowed overnight, but still had a few inches/centimetres of snow
Any fruit still on trees, or dead cedar branches, were snow capped
Tall grass in sheltered areas was still standing
Tree trunks, shrubs and evergreens, all were snow covered
I noticed only one house showing signs of poor insulation
I heard a few chickadees but never saw them. The only birds in evidence were a few crows who had been digging through the snow for breakfast
The playground structure behind the community centre was looking lonely
I passed two benches on the stroll, one had been sat upon last evening and the other saw no visitors
A Canadian flag was shining brightly on the back deck of a house
Two other houses caught my eye. One with a textured, rippled, roofline on a storage shed and the other - snow on the railings
A warmly dressed jogger passed me twice during the hour's walk
One of the city's sidewalk plows was clearing the remaining snow and spreading grit behind it
Not that anyone gets much more than spam these days, but it is good to know the snow-capped community mailboxes stand ready to serve
A little brushing off will be required....
