There were two hairy woodpeckers, two blue jays, a few grackles and mourning doves at the entrance to the trail. Wild turkeys could be heard close by. One of the hairy woodies flew right at me. Thinking in Mud Lake terms, we offered him sunflower seeds. Nope, the pair of woodies left.
The two blue jays hung around for seeds. It was quickly apparent one of the jays had something wrong as he was grabbing the seeds by the side of his mouth, not the tip of the beak. Then we noticed half his top beak was missing.
The landscape is greening, new bull rushes are growing, grass is going to seed already,
The tamaracks are greening with lush needles
