We were hoping that the green herons had returned, but when we arrived, it seemed more like a scene from Florida. A cormorant had its wings out drying. Not that it doesn't happen up here, but it is far more common in Florida.
Notice the two intense green eyes in the photo above. The bright green eyes are the cormorant's breeding "colours". There were 5 or 6 cormorants around the ponds.
We did spot one, maybe two, green herons
At least a dozen painted turtles, all good size, were basking in several spots
The tree swallows came back a few weeks ago. A photographer (?) had  jammed a branch between a sign and a post which the swallows like to sit on.
Several robins were happily chirping
As per usual, the red-winged blackbirds were singing loudly. The females arrived about 10 days ago.
Several Canada geese were making their presence heard. Both nests that were occupied a few weeks ago were empty, we found one family towards the west end of the ponds. One of goslings seemed to have developed quite a personality already.
A sandpiper was scurrying around looking for food amongst the ducks
The trees were showing off their new leaves
In some of the videos above there were "crowd voices" in the background. High school students were congregating on the playground. Another group of students seemed to have assignment papers on which they were working. Seemed to be a science class(?).
