We had been unsuccessful the last few tries to find either a barred owl or a great horned owl where we heard were located. (The location is not being disclosed as is standard good practice with owls). This time we were lucky.
On the way to the hoped-for owls, we noticed someone had provided LOTS of seed for the birds (although the squirrels made quick work of some of it). A junco was enjoying the left-overs.
We heard the great horned owl was up high.
It was.
About 40-50 straight up, behind many branches. Fortunately on my first shot, it was looking down at us.
The barred owl, that took a bit of looking for, was most co-operative
