Who would have expected this scene in early April ?? This was the coldest day on record for an April 9, the day after a very late spring 6" fall of snow.

A few days earlier the turkeys were getting spring fever and parading around on the bare trails. Now they were wondering what happened.

I was used to ducks following me hoping for food, but three turkeys greeted me at the gate and closely followed me, thinking I might take pity. There were a few bare patches in the snow where the turkeys had scratched looking for seeds.

Turkeys enjoying the lack of snow
Where's the food?
One day the squirrels were looking for food on table tops of bare stumps, the next day they were digging in the snow.

Meanwhile the raccoons slept through it all

A mixed flock of bohemian and cedar waxwings were searching out buckthorn berries. Only the cedar waxwings gave me a fleeting chance for a photo.

A few female downy woodpeckers were hammering away on trees in various spots.

The ducks were having a relaxing day

There seemed to be more cardinals around than usual

On the cold morning, new ice had formed, the geese were sitting around on the ice

One goose however ventured on to the thin ice....

A pair of mallards not to be outdone....

The view from the bridge the day before the snow and cold

The beavers seemed to have used up most of their winter larder to the right of the lodge

Some of the maple tree buds were bursting open

Water ripples on the very cold morning produced ice on anything in the water, or hanging closely above it The trees seemed to be wearing tutus😊
