A quick early morning visit to the boardwalk at Mer Bleue. I wanted to get some photos of the coltsfoot blooms. This is usually the first spring flower and I knew some were blooming there.  However I forgot that they closed up at night......
But I did find one open bloom on a stem that had broken off. I guess blooms on broken stems don't retract overnight.

The flowers are easily mistaken for dandelions, but there is no foliage with the coltsfoot.
For some reason a large semi-circle of bull rushes have been flattened on the downstream side of the beaver dam. Normally with the bull rushes all standing the beaver dam blends in and few people notice it.
The cat tails on the bullrushes are in various states of decay
There were a good number birds around.
I could hear a bittern well into the bullrushes. They are next to impossible to see in bullrushes as they blend in so well as was the case today.
They are not a rare bird, but are rarely seen. But their calls are unique. This photo is of one I took in Florida. The sound on the video was downloaded from the web, it is not mine.
At the parking lot there were a good number of wild turkeys
Lots of juncos, chickadees, sparrows and red-winged blackbirds.  I managed to catch a male grackle as he took off from the reeds. Blue jays were busy screaming as they are wont to do...
