Hogs Back, in Ottawa, is one of several junctions of the Rideau River and Rideau Canal. Its main features is a waterfall and walking trails. Hogs Back is named after the waterfall rock formation.
There are several channels each with a waterfall of various heights. The tallest waterfall is about 30 feet, but the overall drop in the river through the "gorge" is some 60 feet.
A smaller waterfall/rapids in the middle of one channel is about 5 feet tall. In the summer a great blue heron often fishes  this section.
The west side of the area is a concrete wall, with the Rideau Canal behind it. In the winter a small waterfall is visible at the bottom of the wall.
Along the rocks of largest waterfall, an ice wall forms every winter with the water flowing  behind and dancing below.
A brief video of the Falls. The video clips at the start and end are in slow motion. Something I tried for the first time. Not sure this is the best subject for it, but.....
The sparse vegetation above the main channel catches the mist and frosts up.
Above the main waterfall, the water is calm. Mallard ducks swim and feed in this area.
Along the shoreline, basswood seeds have blown of trees and a few stronger plants have remained upright in the snow.
The fencing on the west side has become a place for "Love Padlocks"
