As you walk towards the more wooded areas of the Garden a bridge takes you across a pond. We always stop and look to see what's there. This morning is was green frogs (the ones with ridges down their back)
Another green frog was being pestered by a mosquito. IN the video, if you look hard, It shook it off twice, but in the end the mosquito settled down on the frog's back.
In a much smaller pond in another area of the Garden there were a number of tadpoles. Not sure if they were frog or toad tadpoles.
A few insects stopped long enough to be photographed. Japanese beetles and a very tiny hoverfly on a head of grass
Acorns were starting to grow on the oak trees while the walnuts were getting to be good size on the walnut trees
At least one new pine cone was down low enough to be photographed
In an area with a heavy canopy of trees, a few mushrooms were growing on rotting logs
The prime attraction at Garden for photographers was the hummingbird(s) in the an area planted with red flowers. Scarlet beebalms were in bloom. Cardinal flowers will bloom next.
There is a more formal area of the Garden, along with the more unkempt areas. Throughout both areas, there are wildflowers in bloom. Scroll over for ID
