There is a small park just west of Billings Bridge in (Old) Ottawa South that usually has a few birds in the river. At times it has been full of ducks, including wood ducks, geese, gulls etc. But the day visited was very quiet.
The park looks down on the water about 10-12 feet below. There is an island in the middle of the river which at that point is very shallow
There was a lone gull standing goose-like on one leg on a rock, several geese had chosen rocks for themselves.  A few mallards blending in with the brown rocks were not photographic.
A mother red-wing blackbird was being kept busy feeding a fledged chick. She would bring in an insect which it would gobble down, then look for more, so off she went.
As I walked along the paved path above the river, passing some shrubs, a great blue heron unexpectedly came into view. It was very close to the shore. The heron (see video) seemed very interested in something in the vegetation on the retaining bank. No idea what it was looking at.
